Himalayan Homestay

Every night is barbeque night

Raju Tamang’s Himalayan Homestay was one of the first homes to open their doors to the public during the initial boom of homestay tourists in the late 2000s. Today, it has hosted more than 4400 guests, many of whom return every few years.

Himalayan Homestay is located at the heart of Sittong valley, surrounded by the Ahal hills and Mungpu forest.
You can fish in the small creek nearby, or spend your evenings at the Orange orchards to the west.

Raju’s day begins at dawn, picking tea leaves for his guests from his personal garden.
As an army man, he’s travelled Europe and parts of South East Asia – as evidenced by his collection of memorabilia in his library.
He loves taking his guests out to short treks along the Sittong trail or singing karaoke as he roasts meat during barbeque nights.

Raju is a father of two, and his wife Susmita is famous for her hospitality and Gundruk chutney.

Spike, the family pet, loves guests and other pets. Especially if they bring him a treat.

When to Visit

Sandakphu welcomes travellers during Spring, Autumn and Winter.

October - November

October is when the tourist season starts. You’ll want to avoid the Puja rush if you can. However, this is when the weather is most pleasant.

November - January

The winter months are cold, but that’s when the skies are clear and views unhindered.

March-April

The Spring is when most flowers like the Rhododendron are in bloom. This is also some of the best times to be birdwatching.
